Manning School's Deaf Awareness Day

by Anne Burgoni

Friday, September 28, 2007 was a very special day for the students who attend Manning School's Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program.  On that day, the school united in honoring Deaf people throughout the world in an International Deaf Awareness Day.

At Manning School, the students in the D/HH Program went into every classroom to teach sign language and to answer questions about living as a deaf person.

Throughout the school, teachers and students wore black shirts.

This is the color that most sign language interpreters wear because deaf people can see signs best against a plain, dark background.

The day was deemed to be a success by all of the participants.
