SASED IS EXPANDING PROGRAMMING FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM!
The STARS classrooms for students with Autism have been successfully serving Kindergarten through fifth grade students for the past two years. A stakeholder committee has worked continuously to identify the ongoing needs of this population. The group recently determined that expansion to older Elementary and early Middle School age/grade levels was the most pressing need for our member districts. In response, SASED will open a new classroom for the start of the 2010-2011 school year at Fairmount School in Downers Grove District #58 which will serve 3rd through 6th grade students. The classroom will be structured according to SASED’s research-based training model STARS. Eligible students will be those who require intensive and specialized programming across the areas of learning, communication and behavior, which cannot currently be achieved within a general education setting. Enrollment will be limited to students from SASED member districts who meet the program criteria.
The STARS program also serves Pre-K to Kindergarten and Kindergarten through 2nd grade students in two classrooms at Concord School in District #63 and 1st through 3rd grade students in a classroom at the Indian Trail Elementary School in District #58.
