Dear SASED Learning Community,
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. In late June, the Illinois State Board of Education released its Starting the 2020-2021 School Year Transition Joint Guidance for schools.
This 60-page document along with guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the DuPage County Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are among the sources of information that are framing planning efforts by SASED to answer critical questions that we all share about what a return to learning looks like for the 2020-21 school year.
SASED’s planning efforts include frameworks for in-person learning, remote learning, and hybrid models of instruction. Each framework includes measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while re-engaging students in the learning process. Examples include considerations for wearing masks, social distancing, cleaning, schedules and routines, access to technology and transportation.
At this time, the 18 SASED member districts have been working diligently to determine their plans for this fall. The basis for SASED programs and services plans will be dependent on plans made by the school district where each SASED program and service is located. As districts commit to their plans, SASED will be able to finalize its plans for each program classroom and service location. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience as our staff thoroughly reviews the available guidance, each district’s plans, and your input as we develop information for each program and service location.
As plans are still being developed please assist in SASED’s planning efforts by completing the parent survey at this link Return to School Survey. If you are unable to complete the survey electronically you can print the form from the above link and mail it to:
2900 Ogden Avenue
Lisle, Illinois 60532
or call Anita Howard at 630-955-8112 to provide responses to the survey.
SASED is very aware of the urgent need to communicate to families what to expect next school year. SASED will communicate return to learning plans as they solidify so that our staff, students, and families have as much time as possible to prepare for the necessary adjustments. SASED will keep you updated through the SASED website, at www.sased.org on the parent COVID-19 resource page and via regular mail and email.
Thank you again for your patience, understanding and flexibility as SASED works together with our member districts through a situation that none of us could have imagined. I am confident that SASED will present a plan that has the health and safety of our students and staff as a priority, while providing a supportive and engaging learning experience. Please know that return to learning plans will be communicated as soon as possible. In the meantime, please enjoy your summer!
