STARS Overview
The STARS program (

) offers a highly structured learning environment using an evidence based curriculum that incorporates comprehensive best practice strategies for students on the Autism spectrum. STARS classrooms provide discrete programming and education for children in Early Childhood through 6
th
grade who require intensive instruction and individualized intervention. Research-based methodologies from the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) serve as the foundation for designing each student’s individualized cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral learning plan. STARS classrooms only serve students from the 18 SASED member districts.
Eligibility
Students are determined to be eligible for the SASED STARS program through the IEP process in their home districts. SASED programs are just one option in the continuum of supports, services and placements available to meet a student’s needs.
Curriculum and Instruction
The STARS program offers highly structured learning environments using an evidence based curriculum that incorporates comprehensive best practice strategies with the goal of individualizing instructional planning across academic, behavioral, communication and emotional goals. Teachers and staff provide direct instruction in the areas of: language, academics, behavior, and socialization, along with enrichment opportunities for
supported generalization
within inclusive settings. Staff collect ongoing, systematic data for determining individualized programming and for monitoring academic and behavioral progress. The STARS team members consider independence as an important goal toward optimal development.
